A 4" in diameter dream catcher decorated with stones and beads.

Made by Marie Simmons

As the legend goes, the Dream Catcher was used by the Woodland Indians and was hung in the lodge near the bedroom window. The use was to catch all dreams, good or bad with the bad dreams being caught up in the webbing and held there until first light which burned away the bad dreams. Now the good dreams were released through the center and allowed to return another night to be dreamed.

Dream Catchers are made of sinew, leather and a hoop of wood or metal. The process of knotting and weaving the pieces together is great practice for other crafts.
